Traffic constables chase and arrest duo from Aurangabad with illegal weapon in Mumbai

Mumbai: The quick alertness of two traffic constables led to the arrest of two persons from Aurangabad who were travelling in a tinted glass car with an illegal weapon. The two suspects have been placed under arrest and booked under the BNS sections of the illegal arms act.According to the police, head constable Prabhakar Pawar and police constable Sharad Awad, attached to the Antop Hill Traffic Police, were on routine bike patrol near the Monorail Station, when they noticed a suspicious car with black-tinted windows. On spotting the police, the vehicle sped away, prompting the officers to chase for nearly 500 metres before intercepting it.The two constables tried to stop the car, but it drew away at high speed, following which the duo alerted the control room and asked for help. They arrested two while the third managed to escape. During questioning, the two occupants suddenly stepped out, discarded objects by the roadside, and attempted to flee. The policemen quickly secured the spot and recovered a pistol along with eight live cartridges from the discarded items. “We have placed them under arrest under the Arms Act and are interrogating them. Prima facie, it appears that they had come to Mumbai to recover some money, and they had procured the weapon for their safety. Further investigations are going on,” added the officer.Police suspect the weapon may have been brought for a serious offence. A manhunt has been launched for the third suspect, and further investigation is underway.
