Ranchi Voter Roll Discrepancies: CEO Orders Correction Before Special Intensive Revision

Ranchi: Unhappy with the ongoing groundwork in Ranchi ahead of the special intensive revision (SIR), state chief electoral officer (CEO) K Ravi Kumar on Monday said he has directed the officials to correct all discrepancies before the final roll-out.Speaking to TOI on Monday, he said, “The work in Ranchi is not up to the mark. All officials and workers engaged in the preparations for the SIR have been asked to complete all the pre-SIR work by May 25.”“There are discrepancies related to mapping of voters, preparation of Nazjri Naksha (a rough sketch map, site plan, or visual inspection map), key maps, preparation of BLO register through door-to-door survey and other things such as allotting notional numbers to the houses which have no door numbers. There is no room for errors,” the CEO said.“Once the discrepancies that have been found in Ranchi are corrected and completed, the details will be checked again,” he said. The CEO has gone through some samples in Ranchi comprising three assembly constituencies (ACs). A total of six locations in the three ACs which have 24 polling stations were seen or inspected and have been found that the preparation work related to the SIR is not up to the mark.Ranchi, so far is the only place among all the 24 districts where there are discrepancies while inspection in Dhanbad district is still to be done, he said. “The work in remaining 22 are fine,” he said.Notably, out of the 2.65 crore total voters in Jharkhand, around 1.93 crore voters have already been mapped with the previous SIR electoral roll (2003). It is expected that it will reduce the burden on voters for submitting their documents along with the enumeration forms during the enumeration phase after the SIR process rolls out in the state.
