Chennai: A 41-year-old man was arrested in connection with a series of motorcycle thefts around Maraimalai Nagar railway station near Chengalpet. Six two-wheelers and a cellphone were seized from him.Police identified the accused as Kesavan, a resident of Guduvanchery. The arrest followed a series of complaints about motorcycles going missing from the railway station and nearby areas over the past few days. The team scrutinised footage from more than 150 CCTV cameras in the locality and traced Kesavan to a house in the Tamil Nadu Housing Board locality in Guduvanchery and took him into custody.During questioning, Kesavan told police that he worked as an AC mechanic. Police said he would dismantle stolen motorcycles instead of selling them as complete vehicles to avoid detection. The dismantled parts were then taken to Pudupet and sold, police said.Maraimalai Nagar police arrested Kesavan and remanded him in judicial custody. Police are investigating whether others were involved in the motorcycle thefts and the sale of the dismantled parts.
