Mumbai: Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL) on Wednesday announced that it has secured a Rs 4,700-crore transmission project in Maharashtra aimed at evacuating 4,500 MW of renewable energy generated in Karnataka and supplying it to major consumption centres in Maharashtra.The project, awarded through the tariff-based competitive bidding route, will also support the rapidly expanding pumped storage ecosystem in Satara, Pune and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), strengthening Maharashtra’s clean energy infrastructure.AESL emerged as the lowest bidder for the project, which will be housed under a special purpose vehicle, Satara Power Transmission Ltd, and is expected to be completed within 36 months.According to the company, the project includes the construction of a 765/400 kV substation at Satara, a Kolhapur-Satara 765 kV double-circuit transmission line, and augmentation of the existing Kolhapur pooling station along with associated transmission infrastructure.Once completed, the project will add 562 circuit kilometres of transmission lines and 9,000 MVA of transformation capacity to AESL’s network. This will take the company’s cumulative transmission infrastructure to 29,739 circuit kilometres and 1,43,425 MVA transformation capacity.Calling pumped storage a key pillar of India’s energy transition, Kandarp Patel, CEO of Adani Energy Solutions Ltd, said such projects provide the flexibility and reliability needed to integrate large-scale renewable energy into the grid.“The Satara transmission project will create a vital transmission backbone that supports both renewable energy evacuation and energy storage deployment, strengthening power flows between Southern and Western India,” Patel said.The project assumes significance as India pushes towards its target of installing 500 GW of non-fossil fuel energy capacity by 2030. AESL said the transmission scheme will help connect renewable energy-rich regions with major industrial and urban demand centres, while improving grid stability and supporting the country’s long-term decarbonisation goals.AESL is a private transmission company with a cumulative transmission network of 29,739 ckm and 1,43,425 MVA transformation capacity. In its retail electricity distribution business, AESL serves approximately 13 million consumers in metropolitan Mumbai and the industrial hub of Mundra SEZ.
