Ranchi: The city is set to roll out a series of changes to ease chronic traffic snarls from Radium Chowk through Kutchery Road to New Market and adjoining stretches.Officials plan to widen roads, shift electric poles, clear blocked left turns, regulate auto-rickshaws, stop illegal parking and fee collection, and remove encroachments.On Thursday, a joint team of RMC and traffic wing undertook inspection to identify hurdles for infrastructure interventions to ease congestion across the corridor. They proposed widening a single-lane road near Zakir Hussain Park into two lanes and building a roundabout there to improve traffic flow.Other steps include moving electric poles, develop a double-lane carriageway near Naga Baba Khatal vegetable market by realigning the boundary, and clearing key junctions like Ratu Road.Traffic SP Rakesh Singh said the plan focuses on fixing structural issues and enforcing rules. Illegal parking will be fined on the spot, and unauthorised parking fees will face strict action. Designated parking areas and proper auto stands will also be introduced. RMC also plans to improve the Kishori Yadav Chowk–Pinjrapole stretch to reduce pressure on nearby roads.A roundabout near Ratu Road flyover is proposed, and autos will be allowed to operate only from fixed stands. A pink auto service is also in the works.RMC deputy municipal commissioner Gautam Prasad Sahu said the civic body has lined up immediate execution measures alongside long-term planning.“A week-long anti-encroachment drive will be carried out along Kutchery Road, New Market and the Atal Vendor Market stretch to clear roadside obstructions. Simultaneously, proposals related to road widening and improved traffic design are being fast-tracked to ensure more durable relief from congestion,” he said.
