Patna: The Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB) team on Wednesday arrested assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Munna Kumar Yadav of Rajepur OP under Sahebganj police station in Muzaffarpur district while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 8,000. He was caught red-handed on the Rajepur OP premises.The ASI was allegedly demanding the bribe to remove a person’s name from an FIR.According to the VIB, complainant Baban Paswan, a resident of Parsauni Nath village under Rajepur OP, lodged a complaint with the bureau’s Patna office. He alleged that the ASI was demanding a bribe to remove his son’s name from a case registered a few days ago.“The complaint was verified and evidence of the bribe demand was found,” the bureau said.After the allegations were found prima facie true, a vigilance case was registered on June 30 and a trap team was constituted under the supervision of VIB DSP Shiv Kumar Sah.“The team arrested the accused ASI while accepting Rs 8,000 on the Rajepur OP campus. After interrogation, he will be produced before the Special Vigilance Court in Muzaffarpur. Further investigation is underway,” the bureau said in a statement.This is the 77th FIR registered in corruption cases in 2026. Of these, 72 are trap cases. So far, 71 accused have been caught red-handed and a total bribe amount of Rs 27.63 lakh has been recovered.In 2025, the bureau registered 101 trap cases and recovered Rs 37.80 lakh in bribe money.
