PATNA: Nandan Yadav, the main accused in the Jamui horror, projected an image of bravado on social media, posting videos of himself posing aggressively, flaunting beer bottles with friends and dancing with women, often to Bhojpuri songs with provocative lyrics.Several of his Facebook videos featured him either alone or with friends, accompanied by dramatic dialogues and music. The recurring theme was a carefully staged image of confidence and swagger.In one reel, he was seen displaying beer bottles with friends, while another showed him dancing with women.Yadav was arrested early Tuesday after he was shot in the right leg during a police encounter while allegedly trying to escape a search operation. Police had launched the crackdown after videos of the incident went viral on Monday.“The main accused, Nandan tried to escape when police were about to apprehend him, following which an encounter took place and he was shot in the leg,” ADG (law and order) K Suhita Anupam told TOI.The schoolgirl and her friend were returning from tuition on a two-wheeler when the accused allegedly stopped them near Madwa Pahad. The group allegedly harassed and assaulted the two for 15-20 minutes before they managed to flee.Three juveniles were questioned on Monday as part of the investigation. Police said their questioning helped investigators trace Yadav and another accused, Hareram Yadav, who were allegedly hiding in bushes outside Pratappur village.An SIT probing the case then cordoned off the area. Hareram allegedly fell while trying to flee and fractured his leg before being arrested. Police said he later provided information about Yadav’s whereabouts.When the police team moved to apprehend Yadav, he allegedly opened fire while trying to escape. Police returned fire in self-defence, injuring him in the leg before taking him into custody.Police said Yadav and Hareram were allegedly involved in illegal sand mining and liquor trade.
