Ranchi: BJP on Tuesday accused state govt of influencing the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Jharkhand and protecting ‘ineligible’ voters for political gains. The allegations came three days after five persons, including a common service centre (CSC) operator, were booked in Sahibganj district for allegedly using fake residential certificates for the exercise.Terming the allegations baseless, Congress claimed the saffron party was targeting a particular community and dared BJP to provide evidence to the Election Commission (EC).Addressing a news conference here, BJP state president Aditya Sahu said, “The JMM-led alliance coalition had opposed SIR of electoral rolls from the outset and is now trying to interfere with it through the administration. Discrepancies emerging from Santhal Pargana division, particularly in Sahibganj, Rajmahal and Pakur districts, point towards the need for a complete verification of voter lists in the region.”Citing the recent FIRs, Sahu said, “The case showed how forged documents were allegedly being used to secure inclusion in electoral rolls. The state govt is indulging in appeasement politics and some officials are acting in a partisan manner during the revision process. If needed, BJP would move the court in future.”State Congress spokesperson Rakesh Sinha accused BJP of trying to communalise the issue. “For BJP, entire communities opposed to them are infiltrators. They must give proof to the EC rather than resorting to baseless assertions,” he said.
