Bokaro: Acting on intelligence generated through the Pratibimb app, Bokaro police busted an alleged cyber fraud module operating from Chas and arrested two men on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday.“The accused have been identified as Rohit Kumar Das, 23, of Patel Nagar, and Arjun Kumar Das, 28, of Ambedkar Puri. Both confessed to their involvement in cyber fraud during interrogation,” said Pawan Kumar, DSP (headquarters).He added that the accused were part of an organised network that operated through WhatsApp groups. Members of the gang allegedly coordinated with each other online and made calls to victims posing as bank executives or credit card representatives to obtain sensitive financial information and defraud them.Police suspect the involvement of several more individuals in the racket and said efforts are under way to identify and arrest the remaining members of the network.Police seized four mobile phones, five SIM cards, two bank passbooks, Rs 9,400 in cash, and a handwritten list containing mobile numbers of potential targets whom the accused allegedly planned to contact for fraudulent transactions.A case was registered at the Cyber Crime police station in Bokaro. The FIR was lodged under sections 111, 318, 319, 338 and 340 of BNS, along with sections 66(C) and 66(D) of the IT Act.“Both accused were produced before the court, which remanded them in judicial custody,” the DSP said.
