New Delhi: As people in Delhi continue to experience sultry weather, IMD has issued a yellow alert for hot and humid conditions for Thursday.The maximum temperature Wednesday rose to 38.4 degrees celsius, three notches above normal. It was 38 degrees Tuesday. The heat index or ‘feels-like’ temperature was recorded at 43.1 degrees at 11.30 am, but it increased to 46.4 degrees at 2.30 pm. It was 48 degrees at 2.30 pm Tuesday.The day temperature may touch 40 degrees celsius by Friday. “Hot and humid conditions are likely Thursday. No major change in maximum temperatures is expected during the next two days; thereafter, a fall by 2-3 degrees is likely over Delhi,” said a Met official.As per IMD, “hot and humid conditions” are when the maximum temperature remains three degrees above normal along with an above-normal relative humidity.There are chances of rain and strong winds Wednesday night, but the forecast shows that rain is unlikely Thursday and Friday. “The city may receive a spell of very light to light rain along with gusty winds up to 40 kmph during the weekend,” said the official.In July so far, Safdarjung, the city’s base station, logged 132.2 mm rainfall as opposed to the month’s normal of 209.7 mm.The minimum temperature was reported at 29.1 degrees celsius, two degrees above normal. It is likely to remain between 27 and 29 degrees Thursday.Meanwhile, Delhi’s air quality remained ‘moderate’ with an AQI of 136. It was 172 the previous day.
