Ranchi/Ramgarh: From championing tribal languages to making classroom reforms work on the ground, educators from across the state took centre stage as schools and institutions celebrated Teachers’ Day with cultural events and felicitation ceremonies on Saturday.At the state-level programme in Ranchi, Jharkhand Education Project Council (JEPC) honoured 200 govt school teachers for their contribution to education. “The success of any educational reform ultimately depends on what happens in the classroom. Teachers turn these initiatives into meaningful learning experiences for children,” JEPC state project director Shashi Ranjan said.Among those felicitated was Munmun Bhattacharjee, headmistress of Govt Middle School, Barmasiya, in Dhanbad, who has been selected for National Teachers’ Award. Champai Chandra Shekhar and Chokro Sundi of West Singhbhum, and Chambal Singh Munda of Khunti, were recognised for promoting tribal languages and regional-language education.Private schools in Ranchi marked the occasion with performances planned and presented by students.At JVM Shyamali, students staged a short play highlighting the role of teachers, along with other cultural programmes. Teachers with long years of service and those recording 100% attendance were felicitated.At Surendranath Centenary School, the ‘students’ cabinet’ led the celebrations. The junior wing presented a special assembly featuring songs, dances and skits, while senior students put together a mix of theatre, dance, music and games. The school education department also honoured teachers from across Ranchi district.In Ramgarh, the district administration organised a felicitation ceremony at the collectorate. North Chotanagpur divisional commissioner Vijay Kumar Gupta and deputy commissioner Rituraj attended the programme.Tajinder Kaur of PM Shri Upgraded High School, Rajrappa, and Srishwarendra Prasad Gupta of PM Shri Upgraded High School, Manua, both selected for National Teachers’ Award, received special honours. “Teachers play a vital role in shaping society and guiding the future of students,” the commissioner said.Speakers said a teacher’s role went beyond imparting lessons, extending to nurturing values, discipline and social responsibility among students.
