Patna: Chief minister Samrat Choudhary on Tuesday announced a series of projects for East Champaran, including a medical college and an Atal Kala Bhawan in Motihari, revival of old sugar mills and establishment of a new sugar mill in the district.Addressing people after inaugurating the Kisan Samriddhi Sammelan and Buddhijivi, Shramjivi, Samajsevi Samman Samaroh at Mahatma Gandhi auditorium in Motihari, Choudhary said the state govt was working to ensure that Bihar’s youth do not have to migrate to other states for education or employment. He said a plan had been prepared to provide coaching for competitive examinations to nearly three lakh students at about 700 centres across Bihar, enabling aspirants to prepare for JEE and NEET without travelling to Delhi or Kota.The chief minister said that following a request from Purvi Champaran MP Radha Mohan Singh, efforts would be made to arrange land for the proposed medical college near Bariyarpur Airport instead of the site earlier identified far from the city. Work would be taken forward to build the college on the Bariyarpur land, he said. He added that Atal Kala Bhawan would be constructed in Motihari at an estimated cost of Rs20 crore.Choudhary also announced steps to strengthen air connectivity in the Champaran region. Referring to airports in Raxaul and Valmikinagar and development of the Muzaffarpur airport, he said an air traffic control arrangement would be developed at Bariyarpur to facilitate helicopter landings at night.Earlier, Choudhary inaugurated the Bapudham Mahotsav, organised by the tourism department at Gandhi Maidan in Motihari. The Mahotsav will continue till Sept 3. He also remotely unveiled foundation plaques and inaugurated 145 development projects worth about Rs285 crore, aimed at giving fresh momentum to development in East Champaran district.Speaking at the programme, Choudhary said construction of a planetarium in Motihari would begin soon. The Kendriya Vidyalaya, earlier proposed at Piprakothi, would now be built at Bariyarpur following public demand. An indoor stadium would be built at Nehru Stadium, where the Kendriya Vidyalaya is currently functioning. He said construction of the Matsya Samriddhi Cluster and Fish Processing Plant would also begin soon.
