Patna: Congress MP Ujjwal Raman Singh of Prayagraj on Saturday demanded an independent inquiry under the supervision of a sitting Supreme Court judge into the alleged theft of donations made by devotees to the Ram temple in Ayodhya.Speaking to reporters at the Congress office here, Singh also sought a public statement from PM Narendra Modi on the issue, the immediate arrest of senior office-bearers of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, dissolution of the existing trust and the formation of a new body.He further demanded a forensic audit of contributions, offerings and donations made by devotees, as well as scrutiny of the land controversy and expenditure incurred on major ceremonial events.“The Ram temple is not an asset of a political party. It is the symbol of the faith of crores of people. The continued attempt to cover up the alleged loot of the assets made and collected in the name of Lord Ram is an insult to the religious faith of people,” Singh said.He alleged that the resignations of trust general secretary Champat Rai and trustee Anil Mishra amounted to an admission of wrongdoing. Singh added that action had so far been limited to lower-level employees.Bihar Congress chief Rajesh Ram and several party functionaries were present.
