Patna: Of the 164 candidates who filed nominations for the eight graduates’ and teachers’ constituencies of the legislative council, Election Commission (EC) rejected the nominations of 12 candidates for errors in their papers.This leaves 152 candidates in the fray for the elections to the eight seats, scheduled on Oct 23.The constituencies include four graduates’ seats — Patna, Tirhut, Darbhanga and Kosi — and four teachers’ seats — Patna, Saran, Tirhut and Darbhanga. The last date for filing nominations was Oct 6, while candidates can withdraw their nominations till Oct 9.As many as 98 candidates had filed papers for the four graduates’ constituencies. Of these, eight nominations were rejected, leaving 90 candidates with valid nominations. Similarly, 66 candidates had filed nominations for the four teachers’ seats, of which four were rejected, leaving 62 candidates with valid papers.For the graduates’ seats, four of the 22 nominations for Patna were rejected, while the corresponding figures were three of 20 in Tirhut, none of 40 in Darbhanga and one of 16 in Kosi.Among the teachers’ seats, three of 22 nominations were rejected in Patna, while none of the 19 nominations in Saran or 11 in Tirhut was rejected. In Darbhanga, one of the 14 nominations was rejected.
