Patna: A decade-old rural bridge collapsed at Dallochak village under Saksohara police station in Barh subdivision of Patna on Wednesday morning, injuring five youths who were sitting on it at the time. The victims fell into a pit formed by the collapse and got trapped inside.Local residents rushed to the spot and carried out rescue operations using bamboo and wooden supports, pulling the injured youths to safety. They were later taken to govt and private hospitals for treatment.Police from Dial 112 reached the site after receiving information and started an investigation into the incident.One of the injured, Munchun Kumar, said the bridge suddenly gave way while they were sitting on it. Another villager, Ram Kumar Paswan, said three of the injured were in serious condition, while two sustained minor injuries.The bridge was constructed around a decade ago at the block level during the tenure of the then Andauli Darveshpura panchayat head, Devendra Mukhiya.Current mukhiya Abhimanyu Kumar said the bridge served as a link between two parts of the village and its collapse has affected around 5,000 residents. He added that villagers are worried and have demanded construction of a new bridge at the earliest.
