Chennai: Tension prevailed at Chennai airport on Tuesday night as an IndiGo domestic flight carrying 224 passengers and crew members reported an engine failure just before landing.IndiGo flight 6E-723, which was scheduled to land in Chennai from Kolkata around 11.30pm requested an emergency landing around 11.29pm. The pilot noticed that the left engine had failed and alerted the air traffic controller. A full emergency was declared, and airport authorities activated the necessary response arrangements to facilitate the aircraft’s safe landing, with fire tenders on standby.The aircraft landed safely on Runway 25 at 11.37pm. The passengers were deboarded on priority before the aircraft was moved to the remote bay. The full emergency was withdrawn at 11.47pm. Airport authorities said all operations were normal following the incident.IndiGO, in its official statement on the incident, said the flight experienced a technical snag shortly before landing in Chennai. “Following standard operating procedures, all relevant authorities were immediately informed, and the pilots made a priority landing at the Chennai International Airport. All customers and crew safely disembarked the aircraft. The aircraft is currently undergoing necessary checks and maintenance and will resume operations after relevant clearances,” said IndiGo spokesperson.
