Giridih Man held for stealing jewellery worth over Rs 55 Lakh from Kolkata employer

Bokaro: Joint teams of Kolkata Police and their counterparts in Giridih on Thursday arrested a 46-year-old man from Jamua for allegedly stealing gold and diamond jewelleries worth Rs 55 lakh from the home of his employer in Kolkata.The accused Ghupan Paswan worked as a cook and a house help of a businessman based in Beniapukur in Kolkata. The businessman, whose identity was not disclosed by police, recently filed a complaint about jewellery theft in his house. Investigating officers reportedly grew suspicious about Paswan and eventually arrested him.During interrogation, Paswan allegedly confessed to stealing the jewellery and revealed that he had taken the stolen valuables to his in-laws’ house in Kamarsali village in Giridih, police said.Following the disclosure, the Kolkata Police contacted Giridih SP Bimal Kumar and sought assistance in recovering the stolen property. On Wednesday, a police team arrived from Kolkata with the accused. Acting on his information, the police teams conducted a raid at his in-laws’ residence in Kamarsali village. The search continued till late Wednesday late night.Giridih DSP R K Rana said, “Kolkata Police had reached Giridih in connection with the theft case. Stolen jewellery has been recovered, and further action is being taken. The value of the recovered jewellery is more than Rs 55 lakh.”
