Dhanbad: A police team from Hazaribag’s Chalkusha police station met with a road accident early on Tuesday while returning from a raid in Maithon, leaving one policeman dead and three others seriously injured. The mishap occurred near Barwa Adda on National Highway-19 when the govt vehicle collided with a trailer parked along the roadside, Dhanbad SSP Prabhat Kumar said.The Chalkusha police team travelled to the Maithon area in Dhanbad during the early hours of Tuesday to conduct a raid and arrest an accused in connection with a case. However, the accused could not be traced. After completing the operation, the team was returning to Hazaribag when the accident took place.The impact of the collision was severe, completely damaging the police vehicle. Police constable Ramlakhan Yadav, 50, died on the spot. Three other cops — Naresh Yadav, Girish Paswan and driver Gaurav Kumar — sustained serious injuries.Local residents, with the help of police personnel, rushed the injured to Shaheed Nirmal Mahto Medical College and Hospital (SNMMCH) in Dhanbad. After providing first aid, doctors referred all three injured to a private hospital for advanced treatment. Their condition is reported to be serious, and they are under medical care.Soon after the accident, senior police officers reached the hospital to monitor the treatment of the injured and initiate an inquiry into the circumstances leading to the crash.
