Kolkata: Calcutta High Court on Tuesday refused to interfere in an application filed by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) seeking to disband the special investigation team (SIT) on the ground that some of its officers have retired.“What is the fate of all the things that you investigated?” Justice Amrita Sinha asked the CBI counsel.The CBI counsel informed Justice Sinha that the probe had concluded, final chargesheets were filed and trial had begun in four matters relating to the group C, D and classes IX-X and XI-XII recruitment scam. He also informed the court that in the primary teachers’ recruitment case, SIT had filed the final chargesheet and the probe was complete.Former Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay had directed CBI in June 2022 to form a dedicated SIT to look into recruitment irregularities in state-sponsored and aided primary and secondary schools.Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Dhiraj Kumar Trivedi submitted that some officers had retired. “These people have retired, we cannot do anything. DoPT will not pay. SP Dharamveer Singh has now retired…” the ASG submitted.Justice Sinha, however, cited a Supreme Court order staying proceedings before the high court and directed, “No order can be passed by this court. It will be open for them to take necessary steps.”CBI may now approach Supreme Court on the issue.
