Ranchi: CM Hemant Soren on Wednesday set a two-month deadline for completion of key pending road and bridge projects across the state and directed the road construction department to make geo-tagging mandatory for all projects to strengthen transparency, monitoring and accountability.Chairing a review meeting of the department, he warned officials of strict departmental action in case of undue delays, negligence or failure to meet project timelines, read a statement from the information and public relations department.The department made a detailed presentation on its activities over the past five years, including ongoing and completed road, flyover, overbridge and bridge projects. Hemant reviewed the status of various schemes and expressed displeasure over delays in execution of several projects, it added.The CM instructed officials to ensure that all project plans are prepared in a time-bound manner and completed within stipulated deadlines. He stressed that no compromise with quality standards would be tolerated and warned that officers responsible for unnecessary delays could face departmental action.To improve monitoring and accountability, Hemant directed the department to create an updated and well-maintained database of all projects and ensure geo-tagging of every scheme. He said, “Details related to project cost, timelines, progress and current status should be readily available to facilitate effective supervision. Geo-tagging would enhance transparency and strengthen the monitoring mechanism.”Taking note of media reports regarding potholes, waterlogging and poor road conditions, the CM asked officials to take immediate corrective measures and maintain updated records of action taken. He said, “Deteriorating road conditions during the monsoon increase the risk of accidents, and the department must prioritise pothole repairs, improve drainage systems and enhance road quality.”Hemant also emphasised widening and strengthening of narrow roads to ensure safer and smoother traffic movement. Expressing concern over long-pending road, flyover and bridge projects, particularly in Ranchi and other urban centres, he directed officials to expedite work and complete priority projects at the earliest.
