Darjeeling: Bengal has appointed SDOs as administrators in municipalities across Darjeeling and Kalimpong, ending Trinamool-nominated boards in the hill civic bodies. A state notification issued Monday said the governor approved the move under the Municipal Act. The SDOs will exercise full municipal powers until elected boards are formed or further orders issued. The order also includes South Dinajpur’s Buniyadpur municipality.BJP MP Raju Bista welcomed the decision, saying, “Since 2022, these municipalities have been run in a completely undemocratic manner without holding elections.” He said civic services would continue uninterrupted and promised transparent administration until fresh polls.
