Mumbai: A 25-year-old man was killed and his friend was critically injured after their motorcycle was hit by an unidentified vehicle on the Eastern Express Highway in Vikhroli, a Mumbai police officer said on Monday.Shahabuddin Naushad Khan and Hakeek Saeed Khan were travelling to Bandra from Mumbra in the early hours of June 19 when a vehicle rammed into their motorcycle from behind, leaving them severely injured.The driver of the vehicle fled after the accident without offering any help to the injured men, an official said.Vikhroli Police personnel rushed the victims to the civic-run Rajawadi Hospital. They were later transferred to Sion Hospital for advanced care.Shahabuddin succumbed to his injuries during treatment, while Hakeek remains in critical condition.A case was registered against the unidentified driver under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) for rash and negligent driving.Police are examining CCTV footage from the highway and surrounding areas to identify the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run. Efforts to trace and apprehend the absconding driver are underway, the official added.
