Hit by car, tea seller dies; drunk driver arrested

Patna: A 45-year-old tea seller was killed after being hit by a speeding car in the Khojaimli locality under Gardanibagh police station in Patna early on Sunday. Police arrested the driver, alleging he was under the influence of liquor.The deceased was identified as Sunita Devi, wife of Sant Lal Sahni and a resident of Khojaimli. Family members and locals said she had opened her tea stall near a dairy booth around 5am, as she did every day, when a speeding car hit her. Eyewitnesses alleged the driver, while trying to flee, drove the vehicle over her several times. She was taken to hospital but died on the way.Gardanibagh SHO Pramod Kumar said 25-year-old Pradyuman Kumar was arrested and the car seized. “The driver was found to be heavily intoxicated. He will be questioned after he regains sobriety,” he said.“Based on the complaint of the victim’s husband, a case has been registered under relevant sections of the BNS and Excise Act. The incident took place around 6 am, when the woman was sitting at her tea stall in front of CISF canteen,” the SHO said.
