NEW DELHI: The CBI has arrested a deputy controller of accounts posted as an internal financial advisor (IFA) in the Information and Broadcasting Ministry for allegedly accepting an Rs 10 lakh bribe through his wife to clear a renewal file of a private company, officials said on Wednesday.Sandeep, is a 2020-batch officer of the Indian Civil Accounts Service (ICAS).According to news agency PTI, he allegedly demanded Rs 15 lakh from a businessman for processing the renewal file of the company.After negotiations, the bribe amount was allegedly settled at Rs 10 lakh in return for expediting the renewal of the private company’s contract, which was pending before the officer, the CBI said.“After negotiation, the accused agreed to accept a bribe of Rs 10 lakh from the complainant to expeditiously process the renewal file for the private company’s contract, which was pending before him,” the CBI spokesperson said in a statement.The agency laid a trap on Tuesday and allegedly caught Sandeep accepting the Rs 10 lakh bribe through his wife, the spokesperson said.PTI reported that the CBI has initiated further proceedings in connection with the alleged bribery case.(With agency inputs)
