IMD issues thunderstorm warning for 20 dists this weekend
Ranchi has received 125.7 mm of rainfall from June 1 till Friday, a deficit of 21%

Ranchi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday issued an orange alert for 20 districts, including Ranchi, on Saturday and Sunday, forecasting moderate thunderstorm, lightning and winds gusting up to 40-50 kmph, even as the state has a cumulative rainfall deficit this month of 61%.On the other hand, IMD issued yellow alerts for Garhwa, Palamu and Chatra districts in north-western part of the state, predicting a hot and humid day on Saturday.IMD’s daily weather bulletin stated, “Moderate thunderstorm and lightning and wind activities gusting up to 40-50 kmph likely at isolated places over the state except four districts — Garhwa, Palamu, Chatra and Latehar — in the north-western region of the state on Saturday and Sunday.”The maximum temperature across the state is likely to witness a dip of 3-4°C on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, IMD said.Ranchi on Friday recorded a maximum temperature of 32.5°C, a dip of 0.2 degrees, while Jamshedpur recorded 37°C, a fall of 1.2 degrees. Daltonganj recorded the highest temperature of 40.2°C, a dip of 0.6 degrees compared to Thursday. Similarly, Bokaro recorded a maximum temperature of 39.1°C, a 1 degree increase, and Chaibasa in West Singhbhum recorded 35.8°C.Chaibasa recorded the highest rainfall of 11 mm on Friday.From June 1 till Friday, the state has cumulatively received 59 mm of rainfall against a normal of 149.8 mm, a 61% deficit. Garhwa district recorded the lowest of 1.7 mm of rainfall against a normal of 99.1 mm during the period. Sahibganj too received a negligible rainfall of 3.2 mm, Palamu 12.2 mm, Chatra 6.8 mm and Seraikela-Kharsawan recorded 30.6 mm.On the other hand, Dumka received the highest of 127.7 mm rainfall during the same period against a normal of 158.1 mm, still a deficit of 12%. Ranchi has received 125.7 mm of rainfall during the period, recording a 21% deficit compared to a normal of 158.2 mm.
