Inside job: Bizman’s eEmployee leaked vital info to help gang pull off Rs 1.5-crore heist

New Delhi: Police have arrested six men and apprehended two juveniles in connection with the Rs 1.5-crore heist reported from Chandni Chowk two weeks ago. Over Rs 1 crore has been recovered. Among those arrested is a 26-year-old employee of the businessman who had shared the movement, route and live location of the cash with a gang, helping its members steal the cash at gunpoint.“The accused travelled across multiple states in an attempt to evade arrest, but sustained police pursuit ensured that there was no safe haven for them,” joint CP Madhur Verma said. The robbery took place on June 10 when Nitin and his colleague Karan were transporting approximately Rs 1.5 crore in cash on a scooter. As they reached near Zakhira Flyover in Sarai Rohilla, two men riding a red Pulsar motorcycle intercepted them. One of the assailants brandished a pistol and the duo fled with two bags containing the cash.DCP (north) Raja Banthia said, “A police team scanned footage from nearly 500 CCTV cameras, mapped the suspects’ route and developed technical and human intelligence inputs. The CCTV trail revealed that the accused had started following the cash consignment from Paschim Vihar itself.”Investigators found that the gang had used not only the motorcycle but also a scooty and a car. The first breakthrough came when police identified the scooty used in the crime. The vehicle was registered in the name of a juvenile, leading investigators to two juveniles who were apprehended on June 19. Their questioning led police to Viresh, who was riding the scooty during the operation, and property dealer Manpreet.Their interrogation uncovered the role of Karan, who worked for the victim’s company and was one of the persons transporting the cash. Investigators said Karan was passing on real-time updates about the cash movement, route and location to the gang. Armed with this information, the accused conducted reconnaissance, monitored the movement of the cash and followed the two men from Paschim Vihar to Inderlok before striking.Police said the accused regrouped in Tilak Nagar after the robbery, where the stolen cash was divided among them before they dispersed to different locations.Further investigation revealed the involvement of 56-year-old Charanjeet Singh, who works in event management and is Manpreet’s father. Police subsequently arrested him and recovered a part of the looted money.Investigators also identified 41-year-old Vicky, a resident of Tilak Nagar with involvement in nine previous criminal cases, and 43-year-old Dhir Singh of Chander Vihar, who has been involved in 18 previous criminal cases. Police said both men were recently released from jail.Following the crime, Vicky and Dhir travelled through Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir in an attempt to evade arrest. Police teams pursued them continuously for 11 days before finally catching them on their return to Delhi on June 22.
