Ranchi: Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Ltd (JBVNL) recorded 95% billing efficiency in June, generating bills for 52,95,689 consumers out of its total pool of 55,97,117, collecting Rs 468.52 crore in revenue, the discom said on Wednesday.Riding on the momentum, Jharkhand Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd CMD K Srinivasan raised the targets for July, aiming for 99% to 100% billing efficiency and revenue collections of over Rs 500 crore.JBVNL director (distribution and project) Prabhat Kumar Srivastava said, “Field-level officials have received strict directives to deploy all possible measures to reach the July targets.”To achieve the June figures, the discom implemented rigorous administrative interventions, including biweekly monitoring sessions both in-house and in private billing agencies, besides enforcing strict weekly billing quotas.During the review, authorities discovered that several ‘Urja Mitras’, who handle meter readings, were not paid by their respective billing agencies. “Steps were taken to ensure that the pending salaries were cleared. Continuous monitoring of the performance of Urja Mitras was carried out at the field level,” Srivastava said.In a separate revenue boost, the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) collected over Rs 48 crore in holding tax from 88,675 taxpayers during the first quarter of 2026-27.The collections were expedited by a special incentive scheme, which offered a rebate of up to 10% for completing lump sum payments of holding tax by the June 30 deadline.RMC commissioner Sushant Gaurav said, “The revenue generated will be utilised for developing urban infrastructure, strengthening sanitation systems and expanding civic services.”
