JD(U) neta’s gold chain goes missing during minister’s welcome

Patna: A gold chain worth around Rs 7 lakh belonging to a JD(U) activist allegedly went missing during a welcome programme for Bihar health minister Nishant Kumar at Sakri Chowk in Muzaffarpur on Sept 3.The incident occurred amid a large gathering of party workers and local functionaries as the minister’s convoy stopped at the location. A video of the incident has since gone viral on social media.Rajesh Mandal, a JD(U) functionary from Ladoura village in Kurhani block, had moved forward to welcome the minister and garland him when he realised his chain was missing.In his complaint to Turki police, Mandal said, “I noticed that my gold chain had disappeared during the welcome ceremony. I could not ascertain whether someone deliberately pulled the chain from my neck or whether it broke and fell during the pushing and shoving in the crowd.”Turki SHO Sentu Kumar said police had received a complaint and were examining footage recorded during the programme along with CCTV footage from cameras around Sakri Chowk.Police are investigating the sequence of events and trying to establish how the chain went missing and whether anyone was involved.
