Jharkhand-Bengal Border Sealed for Bengal Assembly Polls: Security Tightened

Bokaro: Security forces remained on high vigil along the Jharkhand-Bengal border as voting for the first phase of assembly polls in Bengal was conducted on Thursday.Acting on directives of the Election Commission, deputy commissioner Ajay Nath Jha ordered the closure of all inter-state entry points to prevent any unlawful movement that could disrupt the polling process. Jungle routes and footpaths besides major roads, were sealed to plug every possible transit channel.

Security forces were deployed across sensitive zones, checking of vehicles was carried out at multiple checkpoints, sources said.The DC said, “Strict enforcement was in place, but any genuine voter and essential movement didn’t face any problem. Our priority was to ensure free, fair and peaceful polling in Bengal. At the same time, we facilitated smooth movement of people who were going to Bengal to vote.”
