Ranchi: Nearly 78,000 personnel will be engaged for the Census enumeration in Jharkhand, as the state is gearing up to roll out phase one of the exercise from May 1.Unlike the previous Census, this time, the exercise — part of the nationwide initiative — will begin with self-enumeration in the phase one process. The first phase of Census 2027 is underway in the country from April 1 to Sep 30. Within this window, every state and Union Territory will have to undertake a 30-day field operation as decided by the respective govts. For the first time, an additional 15-day window has been also given for self-enumeration which will be followed by the door-to-door survey by enumerators.Prabhat Kumar, director of census operations, on Tuesday said the self-enumeration exercise in the state will end on May 15.“For the self-enumeration, one needs to visit https://se.census.gov.in and follow the instructions to fill in the questionnaire. There will be a set of about 33 questions,” he said, adding that even if a resident fails to do self-enumeration, he/she needn’t worry as the enumerators will do the needful during the door-to-door survey process. “However, this time, govt has given an option for people to go for self-declaration. It will be advisable to do so in the interest of robust data,” he said. From May 16 till June 14, the process of house listing will begin. “This will also be done digitally where designated enumerators will go door-to-door to collect details. Extensive training have been given at various levels for all the personnel involved in this job,” he said.On the workforce involved in the exercise, he added, “Precisely, 77,716 people are being engaged for the job. It includes 65,001 enumerators, 10,858 observers, 1,332 master and field trainers, among others.”
