Ranchi: The special intensive revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in Jharkhand will formally begin on June 30 and publication of the final rolls will take place on Oct 7. The Election Commission of India on Thursday announced dates for the third phase of SIR covering 16 states and three UTs. From June 30 till July 29, booth-level officer (BLOs) will visit door to door for verification of voters.As per the notification of dates by ECI, Oct 1, 2026 has been fixed as the qualifying date for SIR.Publication of the draft electoral roll will be carried out on Aug 5. Subsequently, the period for filing claims and objections has been fixed till Sep 4. The final publication of the electoral roll will be done on Oct 7.Jharkhand’s chief electoral officer (CEO) K Ravi Kumar said that they had begun preparation for SIR in the state well in advance and the focus is to ensure that no eligible voter is left out.On further plans for smooth execution, he said, “We will publish list of unmapped voters on May 23 at all polling station levels. The list will have the names and numbers of their respective BLOs, so that voters can contact them for their mapping. A copy of the list of unmapped voters will also be provided to the BLOs, so that they can finalise the ASDD list (Absent, Shifted, Dead, Duplicate), and the remaining unmapped voters can prepare their documents to be attached with the enumeration form so that they can be submitted along with the declaration.”Notably, the total number of voters in the state as on May 12, 2026 is 2,64,89,777. The number of existing BLOs engaged in the SIR work is 29,571, and the updated number of booth-level agents (BLAs) appointed by various recognised political parties is 21,644, said officials at CEO office.Appealing to the public, Kumar said, “All the eligible citizens of the state should cooperate in this crucial exercise so that the entire process remains smooth and not legitimate person remains out of the list.”
