Ranchi: Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) on Tuesday informed Jharkhand high court that a system error had occurred while computing the results of the Madhyamik Acharya (secondary teachers) appointment examination held in Jan.The commission also acknowledged unauthorised interference in the marks computation process, following which it asked 2,819 candidates to appear for a re-examination.The admission came during the hearing of a petition filed by candidates directed to take the re-exam. Taking note of the JSSC’s stand, HC observed that the commission’s admission of tampering in the result computation process warranted further investigation. The court termed the matter serious and said those responsible should be held accountable. The case will be heard again on Aug 24.Petitioner Arpana Kumari argued that candidates should not be forced to take another exam because of lapses in the examination process. She also pointed out a discrepancy in the commission’s statements. While the JSSC’s earlier notification said 2,819 candidates would appear for the re-exam, its affidavit before HC mentioned that 2,837 would take it.Kumari said the contradiction reflected serious inconsistencies in the commission’s position. The petition challenges the decision to hold the re-examination and seeks relief for the affected candidates.
