Kolkata: Jadavpur University VC has asked pro-VC and deans of four faculties — arts, science, engineering and interdisciplinary studies — to convene emergency council meetings to discuss the issues related to the formation of committees regarding Institute of Eminence (IoE) and PM-USHA.This follows objections raised by a section of professors and deans that the IoE and PM-USHA committees were formed bypassing statutory bodies like faculty councils, board of studies and executive council. There were also allegations that VC was pressured to form the panels with the names, most of which were suggested by the RSS-linked teachers’ organisation.VC Chiranjib Bhattacharjee said: “I have asked to convene faculty council meetings to nominate members from each faculty to the existing panels. There will be no deletions of names from the committees that have been already formed. The final committee will be approved at the next EC meeting. We need to prepare proposals and detailed project reports for the IoE and PM-USHA scheme.”A source shared: “The VC has suggested limiting nominated members to four from engineering faculty, three from science faculty, two from arts and one from interdisciplinary faculty to make the committees compact and concise.”JU on Wednesday formed a committee to oversee, coordinate and facilitate activities and initiatives under the IoE framework. Another committee was formed for the PM-Usha scheme.
