Kolkata: Chingrighata Bridge will be closed for 60 hours, from 8 pm on Friday to 8 am on July 13, for Metro work. Kolkata traffic police will deploy extra personnel between Kadapara and Science City, especially on Saturday evening, to tackle heavy traffic that is expected due to rain, weddings and a working Saturday.Police are worried that wedding-related vehicles, especially those coming from outside Kolkata, may not know the usual diversions. Regular commuters are already familiar with the route changes because previous trials and shutdowns have taken place.Motorists may be diverted through Tangra, Beleghata Canal Road, and Beleghata Main Road. Police may also display waiting-time notices at crossings so drivers can choose alternate routes. Motorists have been advised to use the PC Connector instead of the Maa Flyover if needed.Traffic signals may be operated manually instead of automatically to prevent long queues on EM Bypass and to keep vehicles moving smoothly. Sources said that two alternate routes have been readied for smooth movement, especially VIP movement given CM Suvendu Adhikari and senior functionaries of BJP will use this route. Home minister Amit Shah too will be in the city.
