Land dispute suspected: Loco pilot gunned down in Jamshedpur; police probe possible land dispute as motive

Jamshedpur: A loco pilot was gunned down by two motorbike-borne miscreants while returning home after work on Monday.The deceased Gyanendra Kumar Gautam, 53, was killed near the running room close to the railway traffic colony under Bagbera police station limits.The incident took place around 12:30 am.Locals and railway employees took Gautam to the Tatanagar Railway Hospital, but he died on the way. An FIR was yet to be lodged till the time of filing the report.A native of Begusarai in Bihar, Gautam had been living in Adityapur since the time he was posted here.Minutes before the incident, Gautam had piloted a freight train to Tatanagar railway station from Kandra. He left for the running room after handing over charge to a colleague.“Apart from being a railway employee, Gautam was also a land broker. Investigation is underway to ascertain whether any land dispute led to the murder,” SP (City) Lalit Meena said.“We will scan the footage of the CCTVs that are installed in the surroundings of the crime scene to identify the assailants,” the SP said. Several suspects have been detained for questioning.Officials of Chakradharpur division of South Eastern Railways said Gautam was an employee of the local division and he was posted at Tatanagar.“Whatever information police seek, we will cooperate,” Aditya Choudhary, senior divisional commercial manager of the division, said.
