Left parties protest MMDR Amendment Bill, threaten wider agitation

Ranchi: Left parties and social organisations on Monday observed Prativaad Diwas to protest against the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, passed by Parliament last week.CPI(ML) state secretary Manoj Bhakt said the protesters demanded the withdrawal of the bill and warned of a widespread agitation if their demand was not met.“The agitation could include stopping the transportation of minerals such as iron ore, coal and uranium from Jharkhand to other parts of the country,” Bhakt said.The RJD and Left parties have also planned a march to Lok Bhavan on Aug 22. They will submit a memorandum addressed to President Droupadi Murmu, urging her not to give assent to the bill.
