Araria: Police seized 5,448 litres of foreign liquor, estimated to be worth Rs 50 lakh, from a container near Laluabadi Chowk under Jokihat police station area of Araria district on Saturday evening. The consignment was allegedly being transported from West Bengal to Muzaffarpur. The container driver was arrested, and a cellphone was recovered from his possession.The seizure was made during a vehicle-checking drive launched on the basis of specific intelligence inputs about a large liquor consignment being transported through the Jokihat route.According to police, a six-wheeler container bearing Haryana registration number was intercepted on suspicion. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 5,448 litres of foreign liquor concealed inside. The driver, identified as Dhanraj Kumar of Belauti village under Masaurhi police station area in Patna district, was arrested.Superintendent of police Jitendra Kumar said the seizure was a major success in the district police’s ongoing campaign against illegal liquor and narcotics. He said police received inputs early Saturday about a large quantity of liquor being transported from West Bengal through the Jokihat route.The SP said that nearly 4,000 litres of liquor had also been seized by Jokihat police two days ago. He added that personnel involved in the latest operation would be rewarded for their performance.
