Mumbai: Two days after a Ghatkopar woman, Dhanalaxmi Ganji, and four others were arrested for allegedly killing her daughter-in-law Sapna (35), a lookout circular has been issued against her son Pramod, who is in Dubai. His passport has been impounded by Dubai authorities following a previous domestic violence complaint by Sapna.Dhanalaxmi allegedly told Pant Nagar police that she had grudges against Sapna as she had lodged two complaints against her family, including allegations of domestic violence, harassment and unnatural sex. She also alleged that Sapna did not take care of her son Divansh, who was always under Dhanalaxmi’s care.Dhanalaxmi further told police that Sapna had recently started drinking heavily and that she suspected her of having an illicit relationship. These issues, police said, had resulted in frequent quarrels between the two women. On August 17, when Dhanalaxmi visited Sapna’s house at Triveni Building, she allegedly found her under the influence of alcohol. A heated argument followed, after which Dhanalaxmi called her former maid, Mangla Jadhav, who promptly reached the house.According to police, Dhanalaxmi had earlier shared with Mangla her grievances about Sapna’s alleged harassment and Mangla was keen to help her. During the argument, Dhanalaxmi allegedly decided to kill Sapna and offered Mangla Rs 3 lakh. She also allegedly assured Mangla that if they were caught, she would get her out of the case.Mangla then allegedly called her daughter Shivani Jadhav (21), husband Suresh Jadhav (46) and son Sajan Jadhav (19) to help eliminate Sapna.Police said the accused entered Sapna’s house one after another. As Sapna was allegedly intoxicated, Dhanalaxmi hit her with a glass object, while Mangla allegedly threw chilli powder at her and tried to strangulate her. When the two women failed to overpower Sapna, Suresh and Sajan allegedly pressed her neck with their feet until she died, said Lata Sutar, senior inspector of Pant Nagar police station. The accused then allegedly took Sapna to Rajawadi Hospital and claimed that she had fallen in the bathroom and sustained injuries. Doctors declared her dead, but raised suspicion after noticing injury marks on the body. All five accused have been remanded to police custody.
