Man beaten to death with bamboo stick over theft suspicion near Mahim Causeway

Mumbai: In a shocking incident, a 39-year-old man was beaten to death with a bamboo stick on suspicion of mobile phone theft near Mahim Causeway on Sunday morning.Mahim police have arrested Naresh Singh a native of Samastipur in Bihar on the charges of murder.The deceased has been identified as Mohammed Jayabul Shah alias Anil (39), who was found lying unconscious near a public restroom. Police rushed to the spot after receiving information and shifted him to Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead before treatment.According to the Mumbai Police, preliminary investigation revealed that the accused, Nileshkumar Sitaram Singh (44), suspected the victim of stealing his mobile phone. The suspicion led to a heated argument around 7 am, which escalated into violence.During the altercation, Singh allegedly assaulted Shah with a bamboo stick, targeting his head and legs, causing fatal injuries. Based on a complaint filed by Police Constable Shankar Tadasam, a case has been registered at Mahim Police Station under Section 103(1) (murder) of the BNS 2023.
