Motihari: Police have arrested a man for allegedly defacing the boundary wall of the historic Gandhi Satyagrah Smarak in Motihari with objectionable graffiti containing allegedly fabricated statements attributed to national leaders and remarks targeting an organisation. Following the incident, authorities removed the graffiti and launched an inquiry.Videos of the graffiti circulated widely on social media on Monday, triggering public outrage. The wall, located near Town police station and Hanuman Mandir, was found covered with writings falsely attributed to leaders such as Subhas Chandra Bose, B R Ambedkar and Chandrashekhar Azad, besides other controversial remarks.Town SHO Rajiv Ranjan said one person, identified as Sunil Kumar, a resident of Motihari, has been arrested in connection with the incident. Police have recovered paint and brushes allegedly used for the defacement from his possession.According to police, the accused has admitted to carrying out the writing. “We are now trying to ascertain whether anyone else was involved or had instigated the act,” he said.Gandhi Satyagraha Smarak holds historical significance as Motihari was the centre of Mahatma Gandhi’s Champaran Satyagraha movement in 1917.
