Man robbed of golf, cash by two transpersons

Chennai: A 41-year-old private company employee was blackmailed and robbed by two transgender persons who secretly recorded him on their mobile phones in Selaiyur. The accused made off with six sovereigns of gold jewellery and Rs 60,000 in cash.The victim, Rakesh, a resident of Puthur village near Mappedu, works at a private firm in Porur. According to police, the married man had connected with the two accused through the dating app Grindr. On Thursday morning, while his wife was away, he invited them to his home.During the visit, the two covertly filmed him. They then threatened to upload the video on social media and circulate it among his family and relatives unless he met their demands. A frightened Rakesh surrendered six sovereigns of gold jewellery on the spot. The accused then escorted him to a nearby ATM, where they forced him to withdraw Rs 60,000 using his debit card, before fleeing with the cash.Later, Rakesh alerted the police control room. The Selaiyur police have registered a case and are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to identify and trace the two suspects.
