Dumka: Acting on the complaints of sale of meat and fish despite being banned during the month of Shravan in the temple town, Deoghar Municipal Corporation (DMC) has sealed a meat shop in Jasidih on Saturday for violating the prohibition order and imposed a cumulative fine of Rs 7,500 on it and few other violators.A special team conducted inspection across various areas in Koriyasa, Jasidih, Barmasia and Baidyanathpur.Officials said the crackdown is intended to maintain the sanctity of the annual Shrawani Mela, when millions of Kanwariyas and pilgrims undertake sacred journey to offer holy water at the Baba Baidyanath Temple.During this month, devotees traditionally observe strict discipline and abstain from non-vegetarian food. “The prohibition is meant to respect religious practices,“ said Deoghar municipal commissioner Sulochna Mina.
