MUMBAI: Several parts of Maharashtra are set to experience a change in weather on Tuesday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting light rain and thunderstorms across several districts.Mumbai to see light Rain, thunderstormsMumbai is expected to experience light rain and thundershowers on Tuesday, with conditions marked as “very likely.” The city, which remained largely dry a day earlier, is set to see a shift in weather with possible brief spells of rain.Showers likely in ThaneNeighbouring district Thane is also likely to witness light rain accompanied by thundershowers. While Palghar is expected to remain dry in parts, the probability of rainfall activity remains “very likely” across the district. Thunderstorm alert in RaigadRaigad district is expected to face more intense conditions, with thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rainfall, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph at isolated locations. State Emergency Action Center appeals citizens to be vigilantThe State Emergency Action Center has urged districts across Madhya Maharashtra, Vidarbha, Marathwada and Konkan to remain alert after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued a five-day forecast warning of gale-force winds, lightning, hail and rain in parts of the state from April 20 to 24. In view of this, citizens have been advised to take necessary precautions.People have been asked to immediately seek shelter indoors or in a safe place upon hearing thunder or seeing lightning, and to avoid standing under trees, in open fields, near water bodies or close to iron objects. Authorities have also cautioned against using mobile phones or other electronic devices in open areas during lightning activity. If caught outdoors without shelter, individuals should sit with their legs together rather than lie flat on the ground.Gram panchayats, along with police and health departments, have been directed to step up public awareness. Ambulances, fire brigades and emergency response teams are to be kept on standby.Schools, auditoriums and public buildings have been instructed to remain open to provide safe shelter if required. Officials have also been asked to ensure that updated IMD warnings are promptly communicated at the village level.Farmers have been advised to avoid working in fields during lightning warnings, while construction activities should be temporarily halted.Authorities have also called for the suspension of yatras, religious events and large gatherings during this period.The State Emergency Operations Center has instructed all concerned agencies to remain alert and urged citizens not to believe rumours, but to follow only official advisories.(With agency inputs)
