Murshidabad Police bust two fake Aadhaar rackets, arrest two

Behrampore: Police have busted two fake Aadhaar card rackets in Murshidabad district, four days ahead of chief minister Suvendu Adhikari’s scheduled visit. The first raid was conducted at an illegal Aadhaar centre operating under the guise of a cyber cafe at Jhulanpur village in Nabagram. The centre was allegedly run by a minor. Police detained the teenager, produced him before the Juvenile Justice Board and seized several Aadhaar cards, a laptop, a printer and a scanner. Investigators said the centre lacked UIDAI authorisation, and the minor worked on a commission basis, funnelling a share of the cash to a contact in North 24 Parganas. In the second crackdown on Monday night, police raided Asimul Seikh’s house at Dogachhi village in Samserganj, seizing a computer, biometric equipment and iris scanners following reports of suspicious gatherings. After questioning the homeowner, police arrested Abul Hasan. Officials said Hasan was allegedly misusing an ID linked to an Uttarakhand-based Aadhaar service centre. He was produced before the Jangipur court on Tuesday and remanded in police custody for seven days.Intelligence agencies are probing wider links to the rackets in Uttarakhand and North 24 Parganas. The security grid has also been placed on high alert ahead of the chief minister’s Friday visit to Murshidabad, where he is scheduled to chair an administrative meeting and address a public rally in Rejinagar.
