Patna: Patna: Nalanda police on Thursday claimed to have cracked a dacoity case involving loot worth over Rs1 crore within 72 hours of the crime. Police arrested four accused from Jharkhand’s Jamtara district and recovered a large cache of stolen valuables, cash and firearms from their possession.The dacoity took place on the intervening night of Augt 2 and 3 at the residence of foodgrain trader Rajeev Ranjan in Devisarai locality under Deepnagar police station limits. Around a dozen armed criminals allegedly barged into the house, threatened family members at gunpoint, assaulted them and decamped with cash, gold and silver jewellery and other valuables. A case was registered at Deepnagar police station on Aug 3.Addressing reporters, Nalanda SP Bharat Soni said the case was cracked through scientific and technical and human intelligence. A special investigation team (SIT) headed by Sadar SDPO-1 Amarnath was formed to probe the crime.Acting on specific inputs, the SIT conducted a raid near Jumman Mor under Narayanpur police station area in Jamtara and arrested four suspects. During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to their involvement in the dacoity.The arrested men were identified as Ajit Singh, Sanjeev Singh, Vittu Kumar and Aditya Kumar, all residents of Shyam Nagar under Deepnagar police station area.According to police, nearly 15 criminals were involved in the robbery, with two of them stationed outside the trader’s house as lookouts. Based on information obtained from the arrested accused, police have identified other members of the gang and launched raids in Bihar and Jharkhand to apprehend them.The SP said police recovered Rs16.43 lakh in cash, around 450 grams of gold jewellery, about 7kg of silver ornaments, diamond and platinum jewellery, two silver elephants, a silver brick and a silver idol of Laddu Gopal. Two country-made pistols, 16 live cartridges and two mobile phones allegedly used in the crime were also seized.The operation was led by Sadar SDPO-1 Amarnath, Deepnagar SHO Suman Kumar and District Intelligence Unit in-charge Alok Kumar, along with other police personnel.Police said further arrests are likely and efforts are underway to recover the remaining looted property.
