Navi Mumbai: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation disconnected the water supply and sewage connection of Amoli Co-Operative Housing Society in Sector 30, Sanpada, Navi Mumbai, after the building was declared a dangerous structure under the C-1 category. The building was declared dangerous in 2019-20 by the Municipal Corporation committee under category C-1 (highly dangerous, uninhabitable, requiring immediate eviction), but the occupants did not pay heed to the warnings from the civic administration, which attracted stringent action. The civic body issued a notice through its office, asking those concerned to immediately stop using the building and vacate the dangerous building. However, it observed that flats in the dangerous building were still being used for residential purposes by over a dozen families. NMMC cited directions communicated by Bombay High Court on disconnecting electricity connection, water connection and gas supply of buildings falling under the C-1 category. The High Court is in response to Petition No. 1135/2014, to facilitate eviction and vacating of such buildings.Earlier, NMMC took such action against a few buildings in Vashi area to cut off water and electricity supply to the identified premises, after serving eviction notices more than once. NMMC announced over 500 dangerous buildings and notices were issued as well, and many societies did not pay heed to civic warnings, which prompted NMMC to initiate stringent measures for the safety of occupants as the monsoon has already hit the city. The buildings that witnessed civic action include 16 buildings of Jai Maharashtra (JN-2 Type Apartment Owners Association, Sector 9, Vashi, building number 31 to 46), Little Flower Co-Operative Housing Society Ltd (JN-4 Type Building No. 9, Sector 9, Vashi), Noor Co-Operative Housing Society Ltd (Plot No. 18, Sector 9A, Vashi), D-Type Apartment Owners citation (Building No. D-1 to Building No. D-4, Sector 1, Vashi).According to NMMC sources, officers and employees of the water supply department, the civic body, Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd, Encroachment Department of NMMC, encroachment department security personnel and local police were deployed. The civic body said such action will be intensified in the coming days. Other nodes in the city will see more action soon for the safety of the occupants who, despite repeated warnings, are still living in the dangerous structures, said Shinde.
