Patna: More than a month after he joined the JD(U), Nishant Kumar, the son of former CM Nitish Kumar, on Tuesday announced that he is likely to go on a statewide tour of the state from May 3. The move is aimed at boosting the morale of the party rank and file feeling “dejected” after his father stepped down as the CM earlier this month.Nitish too had undertaken several yatra and his journey as the CM for Bihar too preceded the yatra and ended with the same.Nishant, who joined the party on March 8, shortly after his father filed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha seat in the presence of Union home minister Amit Shah, revealed his plan before the media on Tuesday after holding a meeting with the party workers in the JD(U) office.“We are still discussing the plan, but will probably embark on yatra from May 3,” Nishant told reporters. He added they are still discussing with the party workers about the yatra’s itinerary and also the name of the yatra. “We are discussing all the aspects with Sanjay uncle (apparently hinting towards party’s national working president Sanjay Kumar Jha) and party workers,” he added.JD(U) sources said that, quite like his father, Nishant too is expected to start his yatra from Champaran, the place from where Mahatma Gandhi launched his first Satyagraha. Party workers said the move is expected to give a new boost to the party workers who were feeling dejected after Nitish stepped down as the CM earlier this month.Nitish too had launched all his yatras from Champaran itself. Nitish, whose career as the CM preceded with “Nyay Yatra” in 2005, launched as many as 16 yatras during his tenure as the CM. They included Vikas Yatra and Dhanyavad Yatra (2009), Pravas Yatra and Vishwas Yatra (2010), Seva Yatra (2011), Adhikar Yatra (2012), Sampark Yatra and Sankalp Yatra (2014), Nishchay Yatra (2016), Vikas Samikasha Yatra (2017), Jal-Jeevan-Hariyali Yatra (2019), Samaj Sudhar Yatra (2021), Samadhan Yatra (2023), Pragati Yatra (2024) and Samriddhi Yatra (2026).Nishant’s plan to embark on yatra follows his extensive meeting with the party workers for the past over a week at the JD(U) office. On Tuesday as well, Nishant held a meeting with the district presidents and block presidents of Kaimur, Rohtas, Buxar, Bhojpur, Ara nagar, Arwal, Jehanabad, Aurangabad, Gaya, Gaya nagar and Nawada. At the meeting, he asked the party office-bearers to take his father’s works to every person and strengthen the organisation through their active involvement.
