Nitish says nothing to panic; Tejas slams govt

Patna: With rivers in spate affecting several parts of Bihar, JD(U) national president and former CM Nitish Kumar on Thursday assured flood-hit people of all possible assistance, while RJD working president Tejashwi Prasad Yadav accused the govt of failing to provide timely relief. After surveying the rising Ganga and flood situation in low-lying areas from J P Setu to the six-lane bridge, Nitish said there was no need to panic.“The govt is in a state of readiness and the administration, too, is doing its work with total engagement,” he said, adding that people living in low-lying areas would be shifted to safer places if required.Tejashwi, however, said people in 15 flood-affected districts were living in “terror” as the Ganga, Gandak, Kosi, Punpun, Burhi Gandak and Bagmati continued to rise.He alleged displaced people lacked shelter, food, drinking water, medicines, anti-venom injections and fodder for cattle, accusing the govt of failing to make advance preparations for relief.
