Nitish visits flood-hit areas, Tejashwi seeks Rs5,000cr central aid

Patna: Former CM Nitish Kumar on Sunday visited several flood-hit villages and towns in Patna district, while RJD working president Tejashwi Prasad Yadav urged the Centre to declare the floods a national disaster and provide Rs 5,000 crore in assistance.Nitish visited Punpun, Akauna, Neema, Beldarichak, Lakhna, Nihalchak, Baluachak, Deokali, Dhanaura, Veer Oriyara, Sewdaha Bigaha, Awdhara, Pabheri, Jalalpur, Sahru and Saeen.Nitish also discussed the situation with deputy CM and water resources department (WRD) minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary, stressing the safety of affected families and timely relief.Tejashwi highlighted the damage caused by flooding to crops, houses and livestock and urged PM Narendra Modi to “immediately visit” Bihar to assess the situation.“The Centre should immediately declare Bihar’s ‘catastrophic floods’ as national disaster and provide financial assistance of Rs 5,000 crore to aid the beleaguered state and also ensure the support of Air Force helicopters for carrying out relief and rescue operations,” Tejashwi demanded.
