Palamu District Officer Inspects Sugar Stocks Amid Price Surge

Daltonganj: Palamu district supply officer (DSO) P K Das inspected sugar stocks at six wholesale dealers at the Agricultural Marketing Yard (AMY) in Bairya More here on Tuesday.The inspection came to prevent hoarding of stocks and create a scarcity of sugar ahead of the festive season amid a surge in sugar prices. Notably, sugar prices have risen by Rs 20 to Rs 65 per kg in Aug.

Das said, “Dealers have been directed to upload weekly stock details on the Food Stock Monitoring Portal. Dealers can hold up to 400 metric tonnes of sugar at a single location. The Centre has imposed sugar stock limits till Nov 30 and prohibited sugar exports till Sep 30.”
